Introduction
The current counseling landscape is demanding and one that is dominated by high levels
of accountability. Nowadays, counselors rely on research to make sound and crucial decisions
regarding the counseling profession. The primary motive is to improve intervention effectiveness
through the use of safe, effective and successfully proven approaches. Counseling focuses on the
outcome rather than early humanistic, behavioral, and cognitive theoretical traditions (Sexton,
1999). Counselors will, therefore, exercise their decision-making skills to choose the best
evidence-based treatment approach that will yield the best results. This paper explores the use of
research in decision making to ensure that the safest, most effective and successfully proven
strategies are deployed in the counseling profession to help a client recoup.

be used to make conclusions or generalizations, qualitative reports give a deeper understanding
of any realizable concept or theory and the underlying reasons. They provide insight and
generate ideas which are crucial in the decision-making process.
