The concept of employee negotiations is quite interesting and compelling. The two
articles chosen for this paper are the When You Shouldn’t Try to Dominate a Negotiation by
Scott Wiltermuth and Gender Can Be a Bigger Factor than Race in Raise Negotiations by Kerry
Jones. There are many emergent issues related to employee negotiations and they act as
determinants of salary increment to many employees.
Compelling Concepts
According to Jones (2016), gender can be a bigger factor than race in raise negotiations
and this concept is quite interesting but disturbing at the same time. It is more surprising to note
the fact that, men, unlike women, are more comfortable in asking for salary raise. Women seem
fearful in asking for salary increment for the fear of losing their jobs or being reprimanded by
their employers. Most men in their careers have at some point asked for a salary raise while
women hardly ask for the raise. In America for instance, white Americans are most likely to ask
for a salary raise. They are confident enough to ask for the increments unlike in the case of the
