Aristotle’s rhetoric is a rather complex theory used by Nussbaum to depict the decline
of moral worthiness in youths. It follows the effects of circumstances, law and morals
on the growth of average people in the society. By looking into the Theban plays by
Sophocles notably: Antigone, Oedipus at Colonus and Oedipus Rex, Nussbaum
basically shows that tragedies do create patterns of acts notwithstanding the morals of
the society and therefore lead to loss of morals in youths.
