Prompt and Invention Ideas for the Definition Mixed Modes Essay
We have practiced five essay modes: narrative, descriptive, illustration, compare/contrast, and cause/effect. The mixed modes essay defines a topic by writing each body paragraph in a different mode
Prompt: Choose ONE of the following topics and write a 5-paragraph essay defining the topic:

Alternate prompt: choose your own topic but check with me
Your purpose may either inform (show your understanding) or persuade (motivate others to accept a point of view). The introduction should contain a one-sentence, three part formal definition of your term; this will be your thesis. You could further develop your introduction by expressing an attitude toward the term or by setting it in a broader context. The body should consist of three different types of 8 sentence body paragraph. The best conclusion will not only restate the thesis, but also add a new idea. Use your annotated readings as models of what to do (and not to do).

Introduction.
Happiness refers to a strong mental or rather an emotional state of well-being and is
commonly expressed through a variety of emotions such as joy or contentment. Happiness
makes one joyous and more. A person in happy mood interacts and talks to people freely. The
emotional feeling of being proud, contentment, joyous and showing gratitude defines happiness
effectively. Happiness can be expressed in different ways by a person such as showing affection
to them as well as being caring and kind to others. Happiness leads to positive emotions in a
person which enables them to interact and act positively as well. As such, happiness is very
essential for people in the society as it promotes peace and unity.
Description
Happiness can also be described using words such as cheerfulness, pleasure, satisfaction,
gladness, and contentment among others. The quality of being happy results to contentment, joy,
cheerfulness as well as carefreeness. Happiness also makes individuals in the society act
positively in all activities they do. Happiness is a state of mind can be controlled. Happiness can
easily be demonstrated by an individual through their facial expressions which can be glamorous.
