compared with other eras historians do not know much about this time. It is as if the history of
the period of time has been lost. This Dark Age was caused by the collapse of the Western
Roman Empire that was followed up by waves of invasion and raiding. During this period there
was a population declined which was contributed by the continued fight among tribes in Western
Europe (Richards, pg. 560). Another reason that contributed to the decline was that they
experienced a high level of disease spread. This was because most of them did not believe in
bathing.
