Poster Presentations Materials Science 201 OVERVIEW Processing - Structure - Properties - Performance; this relationship is fundamental to understanding materials as they are used in engineering applications. Your goal is to create a technical poster detailing an example of this relationship and present the poster to your lab section. DETAILS • Audience: Your class peer group. Expect students to have a firm understanding of the content from the Matleng 201 course and lab. Experience in areas outside the class will vary to some degree (major, class standing, work experience, etc) but everyone is an engineering student. • Purpose: Provide an example of a processing-structure-property-performance relation for a material of your choice. Describe an application that uses this material and relate the final application performance back to aspects of material properties, structure, and processing. Tie the content of the class to an interesting application of your choosing. Use data from your lab, CES EduPack, your textbook, or other sources (use references where appropriate). Pick something that will a) help you learn more about materials and b) provide a learning opportunity to your classmates. The intent is to give you some flexibility to explore a topic of interest while at the same time giving you experience with an important communications skill. • Delivery: 1-page poster. The poster will be displayed on the projector in lab (no need to print a physical poster). Each student will have 5-min to present their poster to the class. Questions from students should be expected. You can get UWM poster templates at this link or make your own: https://uwm.edu/universityrelations/poster-templates/ Change the poster to a size to fit the 1080p display of the projector in lab (Slide/Poster size: 40.97×23.04, which is a 16:9 ratio). ASSESSMENT The poster and presentation will be graded based on the following: • Delivery of a clear example of processing-structure-property-performance • Description of the application that utilizes the material • Utilization and presentation of data (lab, CES EduPack, text, papers, other) • Organization of content including layout and clear presentation of visuals • Adapted to the proper technical level of the audience • Free of grammar and spelling problems, includes relevant references Due by the start of your lab the week of April 30, 2018. Upload your poster file (pptx, pdf, etc) to D2L prior to the start of class. The file must be uploaded to D2L and presented in lab to receive a grade. Students should arrange a time to review the poster content with their lab TA prior to finalizing the content. This will be a technical review of your poster to help make sure you have the technical content correct. Have a draft or outline ready for your meeting with your TA.
