Gouweloos Presentation Assignment Worth: 10% of the final grade Due: March 26, April 2, or April 9 As we learn throughout the course, gender inequality can be found throughout our society. The purpose of this presentation assignment is to apply your analytic skills to an artifact and effectively communicate your analysis to an audience. Intended Learning Outcomes: 1. Learn how to review and evaluate everyday life as it relates to gender inequality 2. Develop effective presentation and communication skills 3. Build upon your time-management skills Assignment Guidelines: • Students are required to examine an artifact (e.g. song, piece of clothing, an image, a document, etc.) and analyze how this artifact relates to the themes/concepts discussed in class. Evidence of your own analysis is very important. • Students must then present their analysis to the class. The format of your presentation is entirely up to you; however, your presentation must not be less than 8 minutes and must not exceed 15 minutes in length (including discussion). Students must prepare a discussion question that they will put forth to the class following the presentation. See the class website (Avenue to Learn) for a guide on how to create effective discussion questions. • Students must also supply all audience members with a 1 page hand out summarizing your presentation (this handout will contribute to your overall mark). This handout must be emailed to me no later than 8:00 pm the evening before class. I will distribute the summary sheet to the class so you do not need to provide paper copies. • Incorporating academic sources: • You must incorporate a minimum of two direct quotes from your support sources in your presentation. Cite these quotes using APA in-text citation formatting. • You must incorporate a minimum of two additional sources to support your analysis. (List them in a reference slide). • Grading: • Grading will be based on a combination of peer evaluation and instructor evaluation. Specific attention will be paid to the handout, the clarity and organization of the presentation, the presentation style (including creativity), depth of analysis, appropriateness of sources, and engagement with audience via discussion question. • Be creative and try to enjoy the project. The more you enjoy what you are saying, the more your audience will too!
