Running Head: THE SYRIAN REFUGEE CRISIS- A SOCIAL PROBLEM THAT NEEDS A HUMANITARIAN
SOLUTION

Introduction
It is estimated that out of the 22 million people living in Syria before the war began,
13.5 million need humanitarian assistance. They lack food, water and clothing. The
disappointing fact about the refugee situation in Syria is they suffer twice fold once they
manage to flee the war-torn nation. They seek help from the world but instead get profiled
and discriminated based on being a ‘potential security threat.’
Indeed, there has been a surge in the number and frequency of terrorist attacks in
European soil. However, this cannot be explicitly blamed on the refugees trying to escape
war. The harsh treatment of Syrian refugees only makes the situation worse. This apparent
negligence of the refugees trying to make good of their lives only escalates the hostility
between the west and the Islamic world. Although Europe claims to be doing its best in
solving the Syrian refugee crisis, it is clearly not doing enough from a humanitarian point of
view. Fewer restrictions on integration and making refugee camps more habitable is the
ultimate solution to the Syrian refugee crisis.
