In death investigations, pathologists study the injury on the body of the victim to determine
the manner of death (Reno, et al., 2000). There are five legally recognized manners of death and
it includes natural cause, accident, suicide, undetermined and homicide. Depending on the nature
of the injury, a medical examiner can determine what caused the death of the victim.
In the first instance, a contact wound to the back of the head is a homicide. The contact
wound was as a result of the direct contact between the muzzle of a firearm and the head at the
moment of discharge. When a person is shot, a cavity is formed as the body moves quickly in a
fluid form. The fact that the contact wound was the back of the head cancels out the possibility
of suicide. It shows that the victim was shot by someone else. The contact wound could either be
