1. What is your reaction to the Altruism and Bystander Intervention PowerPoint
presentation?
The Altruism and Bystander Intervention PowerPoint presentation was very thoughtprovoking for me. It covered important concepts like the bystander effect and reasons why
people may fail to help others in need. The presentation itself was that it was well-designed and
impactful. The combination of information, videos, and the awareness test drove home the main
points. They were informative in helping me understand how the bystander effect happens. It
occurs when the existence or presence of other people discourages people from intervening in an
emergency occurrence or event, including one that an individual needs help. While most people
are concerned about emergencies or helping people in need, the presence of other individuals
discourages them. This hinders the needy person from getting the help they need. So, the
Altruism and Bystander Intervention PowerPoint presentation helped in gaining a deeper
understanding of this effect, reasons why people might be discouraged in helping others, and
how to intervene on an event.
2. How did you do on the awareness test? What does it mean/implications?
I did not do very well on the awareness test it. At first, my perfectionist side took over, so
I was more obsessed with getting the count right. It was challenging to track the white team’s
ball movement and notice something else. I got so caught up in tracking their passes that I
completely missed the moonwalking bear.
