Increasing the wages of minimum wage workers provides a boost to the economy. It
benefits the economy by increasing the cash flow among businesses through increased consumer
spending, saving the taxpayers money since most minimum wage workers depend on the
government's safety net programs, and this will provide a stable income threshold by decreasing
the poverty levels. Minimum wage laws differ from country to country, and how they affect the
policies put in place shows a significant disparity. Countries with a stable economic system have
efficient wage bills followed by businesses, and wage bills are constantly changed to combat
current economic conditions. In the United States of America, the last proposed wage bill was
addressed in 2007 and phased through to 2009, and the increment was not what was agreed
(Muller). The agreed increment was from $7.25 to $15, which did not fully come to fruition.
With a wage increase, consumer spending will increase, supporting local businesses. This will
reduce the subsidy policies placed on these businesses because of the low wages they pay their
workers. The government will save on this subsidy to save more of the taxpayer's money.
Increased wages give more homes a stable income covering essential factors such as food,
shelter, and clothing. Government safety net programs such as SNAP have many homesteads
relying on them, which can be reduced with increased wages. The number of people surviving on
minimum wages is growing at an alarming...
