Running head: FEDERALISM IN UNITED STATES Federalism in United States Name: Course: Institution: Date: 1 FEDERALISM IN UNITED STATES 2 As a business major, my future profession is the management of business entities as well as entrepreneurship. Since I have adequate business skills, I can start my own business and manage its operations in the market. As such, I will be tasked with the responsibilities of ensuring the operations of the firm I own are run by the requirements of the existing federal and state laws. I will also have to manage the workforce in the firm by ensuring their welfare is well taken care of. The business skills I would attain from the class would also be applicable in solving various problems that the firm faces. Federalism is an innovative US constitution concept which entails the power-sharing process by the federal and the state governments (Emerson, 2014). Federalism is very important as it ensures the laws enforced by the central government as well as by the state government are respected by the citizens of United States. Before federalism, the scope of power between the central government and the state government was alienated and preserved, and people tended to fear the central government laws more. With federalism, powers have been shared effectively, and both powers are respected and recognizedby every citizen and leaders in the United States. One of the policies that would affect me as a business major and as a future entrepreneur is the Affordable Care Act (2010) which is enforced by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The Affordable Care Act (2010) requires every firm to pay for their employee’s healthcare insurance cover (Uberoi, Finegold & Gee, 2016). As a business owner, I will have to ensure this policy is adhered effectively to avoid paying heavy fines. Firms that don’t meet this requirement are fined heavily by the enforcing agency, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, especially when filing taxes. Federalism plays a key role in the implementation of this policy as both the central government as well as the various state governments are involved directly in enforcing the FEDERALISM IN UNITED STATES 3 policy. The Affordable Care Act (2010) is facing some challenges with federalism as some states oppose its implementation. The move by some states to oppose its operations in them made forms the major challenge the policy is facing as far as federalism is concerned. 4 FEDERALISM IN UNITED STATES References. Emerson, B. Please note this is an actual source, but NOT one applicable for your final research paper. Source: Brown, K., Royer, S., Waterhouse, J., & Ridge, S. (2005). Virtual workforces and the shifting frontier of control. The Journal of Industrial Relations, 47(3), 310-325. Retrieved from EbscoHost database. Paragraph: The political process has a significant impact on virtual workforces. Brown, Royer, Waterhouse, and Ridge (2005) studied how organizations innovate and create new technology to allow remote employees to communicate virtually. This has changed a great deal since 2005, but the important aspect of rethinking how employees and managers do business and manage assignments within the virtual workplace is discussed. As online education continues to evolve, more changes will be necessary within online colleges and universities to keep up with the changing technology and to restructure their workforce to meet the needs of students. These changes can result in new organizational structures that lead to the need for less hierarchy within an organization (Brown, Royer, Waterhouse, & Ridge, 2005).
