Introduction
Stress is unavoidable part of people’s lives. Seven out of ten individuals in America
report experiencing stress on a daily basis, and in most cases, these individuals report that stress
moderately affects their lives in accordance to the ADAA study conducted on stress and anxiety
disorders. A study conducted by the American Psychological Association in 2008 revealed that
more people reported experiencing stress than the preceding year. Additionally, these individuals
reported that their level of stress had escalated from the past year (Warburton, Nicol & Bredin,
2006). These statistics indicate that stress is an issue of concern in the country that requires more
enlightenment to mitigate and eradicate the associated negative heath repercussions. Although it
is impossible to eliminate stress, people can manage stress to prevent the negative repercussions
of stress in their lives. A recent online survey conducted by ADAA indicated that 14% of people
in American used regular exercises to manage stress in their lives. Other 18% of the individuals
that took part in the survey reported talking to friends while 17% used sleep to cope with stress.
14% used watching TV and listening to music as a primary way of regulating stress (Warburton,
Nicol & Bredin, 2006). While these strategies are effective ways of managing stress, exercises
such as going to the gym is the most recommended strategy by health care professionals. Among
the participants of the ADAA survey, a significant proportion is already on the right path of
using exercise to regulate stress. 29% use walking, 20% use running, while 11% utilized yoga as
