This assignment focuses on communication styles and the business communication process. Students apply the communication styles to a conversation they recently experienced to better understand their own style and how it is perceived by others. Additionally, students learn the elements of the transactional communication process and how that process can be applied in a business setting.

Assignment Steps

Consider a recent interpersonal conversation you had in a business setting.

Create a 1,050-word analysis in which you complete the following:

  • Discuss the content of the conversation. What was communicated in the conversation, and who were the communicators?
  • Explain which style best describes the method of communication you and the other person used throughout the conversation.
  • Explain why you selected those styles and how the conversation would have been different if you had used each of the different styles of communication.
  • Explain each style and how the conversation would have been affected due to the differences and did the business setting affect your style of communication.
  • Explain each element of the transactional communication process and then describe each element as it relates to your conversation. For example, who was the sender? What was the context of your conversation?
  • Discuss in what ways the business setting affected the transactional communication process.

Cite at least two references in your paper.

The content of the conversation

I had an interpersonal discussion with one of my colleague concerning productivity and
effectiveness of information technology. The dialogue entailed what is bringing about the
reduction in the quality of the services of the information technology in the information
technology labs. In our discussion, the problems that we came up with were WIFI signals that
have become weak, the complaints processing have become delayed, and there are also some
issues with communication with the management of the information technology lab.
The lab assistant and an individual from our group also joined the discussion. My
colleague, whom we started the conversation with before the other two joined, is called Aaron
who is among members of our group. When we all met, we were unhappy with the complaints
each gave, and our dialogue entailed sorting what the cause is and suggesting of the solution.
