Introduction
The management, prevention, and treatment of respiratory illness are major issues facing
families in the United States and the world in general. Research shows that respiratory illness
and other chronic diseases can have detrimental, even shattering, socioeconomic impacts on
individuals and their families. A recent report found that a significant number of people get
government sickness and disability-related payments. Globally, there is a well-founded
relationship between low socioeconomic situations, poor well-being and health and an
augmented risk of mortality among individuals with serious health complications such as
respiratory illness (Woo, Robinson, 2015). This paper will analyze the aspects of respiratory
issues complicated by economic disadvantage.
The Illness and Its Symptoms
Asthma is an illness that narrows an individual’s airways and makes that individual
produce extra mucus. This condition causes breathing difficulties and can steer wheezing,
coughing, and shortness of breath. Although asthma cannot be cured, its symptoms can be
managed. Moreover, since asthma usually changes over time, it’s integral that a patient works
closely with a healthcare professional so that he/she can monitor the signs and symptoms and
change treatment accordingly (Network, 2014).
Symptoms
The symptoms of asthma change from individual to individual. Some people have
irregular asthma attacks, have signs only at particular periods, or have them all the time. The
following are some of the symptoms of asthma;
