Answer the following short-answer questions. All answers should be in
complete sentences and free from proofreading errors. You should not need
more than a paragraph to answer each question. Remember that more isn’t
necessarily better.
Do not include the homework questions in your submission. Just give the
question number and your answer.
All sentences and ideas are assumed to be your own unless you cite your
source. Using someone else’s work without attribution is plagiarism and will
result in an F in the course. Please note that artificial intelligence is not

Questions
1. What job do you hope to have once you finish your education? In
Module 1, we covered a distinction between consumers and producers of
research. How do these differ? In your job, would you be a consumer of
research, a producer of research, both, or neither? Explain.
2. Gracjana is a cognitive scientist with expertise in attention. Presently,
Gracjana is the primary investigator on a project examining the relation-
ship between pupil size and reaction times. Specifically, she is studying the
link between the diameter of someone’s baseline pupil size and how quickly
they notice a vibrotactile stimulus applied to the index finger. Although this
study has little practical use, its results will speak to a theoretical debate
in Gracjana’s field. In Module 1, we covered applied, translational, and ba-
sic research. How do these differ from one another? Does Gracjana’s work
constitute applied, translational, or basic research? Explain.
3. Imagine you come across the following headline on a news site: “You’re
going to ‘like’ this study: Epidemiologists prove that receiving likes on Face-
book increases lifespan”. Without knowing anything else about the article or
the scientific work on which it is reporting, how do you know that the article
will misrepresent the scientists’ work?

Question one
I hope to pursue the career of a speech-language pathologist upon the culmination of my
study. About consumers of research, which was discussed in Module 1, consumers refer to
individuals who use research results to guide their practice, activities, decisions, or
understanding. On the contrary, producers actively participate in creating knowledge through
research methodologies. Since I dream of becoming a speech-language pathologist, I would
likely operate as a research user in my future career. This includes keeping up to date with the
latest developments and evidence-based practices within the field that improve the quality of
therapeutic interventions. My professional interests ensure that I am directly involved in
consuming research. As such, my clinical...
