Running Head : ADVERTISEMENTS ANALYSIS 1 Advertisements Analysis Margarita Lozada 04/01/2018 2 ADVERTISEMENTS ANALYSIS Introduction Article Choice I choose this ad as the advertisement is a form of marketing strategy. This approach is mainly used to promote a product, good or service (Mooij, 2010). The primary aim of this approach is; to increase the volume of sales, create awareness about a new product among consumers and restore a tainted image of individual products. Various plan to achieve these aims includes the use of newspapers, Radio, television, websites, and blogs. Commercial advertisement mainly aimed at increasing the income of a company. The noncommercial ads include advertisements used by political parties or religious groups. Assumptions and Observations The message, All forms of advertisements, are aimed at achieving a particular goal. This goal could either be political, social or economic. Due to the presence of many companies trying to reach the customers, clutter occurs. Clutter refers to a situation in the advertisement that happens when there exists a large volume of messages that aimed at the same clients. The presence of these many messages reduces the effectiveness of ad since it makes customers unable to see messages intended for them. Such many messages originate from radios, newspapers, TV, and blogs. When such information reaches the customers at the same time, they cannot be able to decide which ones to pay close attention to or buy. Audience Problems associated with clutter can be minimized by use of contrast (Kitchen, 2016). This approach involves creating distinct traits in a product. Such character includes color. Use of a unique color during advertisement will generate attention from different customers. These will achieve the goal of making clients learn about the product. 3 ADVERTISEMENTS ANALYSIS The relation between people The technique of using contrast can help firms get more sales, where the use of color can attract attention from diverse people. This approach, however, has some issues. When a company decides to use a bright color to make their product attractive, legibility could become an issue. When such posters are not legible, the entire goal of the advertisement will be lost. Therefore, this will prove a waste of money and time for that particular company. Relation with the product - Contrast can also be applied in explaining features of a product. Use of unique words to describe a product can create attention from the consumer. Such words may prove appealing to the consumers, hence allowing them to remember them. Contrast can also be achieved through the use of the website to promote sales. A website can be designed in a unique way that differentiates it from the rest. Various products on sales can be made to display in the different color from the rest. When a customer visits this website, the will be able to see the products. The goals of advertisement will have attained. Effectiveness - both ads are for products that are mainly used by women. They are both beauty products, in both ads. What is noticed in one ad seems to be women in Mexico and the other as no ethnic women? I also notice in both ads all women are light skinned. In the hair ad, the model seems to be used as a sex symbol as her dress tucked and you can see her underwear. The social scientist may want to see why no ethnic women were used as models, such as for hair. Social scientists may also question why in the hair ad the model had to show underwear, what would be the role of the woman in this case. Questions: 4 ADVERTISEMENTS ANALYSIS • How do these beauty products help women of all races and hair types (hair ad) • How do ads sexualize women? • How do ads assume one gender and not all can only use products? • Can a woman value her success in her career have to appeal as sexy to have job fulfillment? • What is women’s view on beauty?
