Water crisis
Imagine life without water, the earth would be dead no animals no plants not even humans.
There are several countries that are suffering from water shortage for many reasons. This
editorial is trying to solve the water shortage issue in the world. Fresh water is getting less and
less by the time because of pollution, climate change and wasting water. People who get water
supply every day won’t know the real value of water until they lose it, people will get angry just
because they can’t get hot water.
The solution for the water shortage in the poor countries is solar powered purifier. It is cost
effective because it depends on the sunlight. A study states that the ultraviolet rays helps clean
water by killing microorganism.
The solar powered purifiers should work because they produce fresh water and they are
inexpensive. As stated previously, ultraviolet rays kill the microorganism that causes diseases
and make it drinkable. Since it only depends on sun light, the machine won’t be expensive in the
long run, however, the poor countries may need some kind of fund to get the purifier.
I don’t belevie there is any issues in this solution, but the countries with political issues may be
having issues in getting their hands on these purifiers.
Lastly, water is a valuable source of life, no man can survive without water, so we should be
carful not to waste it and help those who have difficulty in getting some fresh water. People
should stop polluting the water and start reusing water. Water shortage crisis is in every news
paper and tv. There are a lot of online magazines and articles about solar purifier, for example
sciencemag.com.

Paper 5: Editorial
In our final paper this semester, we will use the knowledge we have acquired over the course of
the term about persuasive writing, rhetoric and rhetorical appeals (ethos, pathos, logos) to
compose a persuasive argument. Our purpose in writing this editorial is to persuade a general
audience (imagine the editorial would be published in a major newspaper like the New York
Times or Washington Post) that a). the problem we have been researching needs to be addressed
and solved as soon as possible, and b). our proposed solution is the most effective and efficient
plan to resolve this problem.
When writing this paper, keep in mind the genre conventions of an editorial. Because editorials
are published in newspapers and magazines, they must be written in a way that grabs the
attention of a casual reader of the newspaper. Therefore, the title should not only convey your
main argument, but also work to catch the attention of a casual reader. Likewise, your opening
must grab the attention of a casual reader, so you will need to consider the best way to do this.
Because column space in most news outlets (more so in print form) is limited, another
convention of editorials is their conciseness. The length requirement for this paper is 3+ pages,
not including a Works Cited list, so you will need to think about what evidence and appeals are
the strongest and most effective to persuade your audience in a short amount of space/time to
accept your solution.
Format
Paragraph 1 – Introduction
Provide background on the overall issue, then transition into the specific problem within the
issue that you will propose a solution to. Remember that the opening sentence or two should be
attention-grabbing and draw the reader in.
Paragraph Two –thesis
In a short paragraph, articulate and explain your solution to the problem and why it will work.
Paragraph Three through Five – Supportive Arguments for your solution
These paragraphs are where you sell your solution. You must use examples, strong facts, and
details to support your stance. Each paragraph should contain a different argument for your
solution.
Paragraph Six – address counterarguments
In this paragraph, address any counterarguments or concerns with your proposed solution. Who –
ie what stakeholders or stakeholder groups – would take issue with your proposed solution?
Why? What is their argument against your solution? Do they have a valid point? Why/why not?
Why is your solution the best option overall?
Paragraph seven – Conclusion
End with an appeal to the readers. What specifically do you want them or officials to do? Where
can readers go online to learn more about the problem? How can readers act to help solve the
problem? Provide specifics.
