In your paper, you must use AT LEAST: 1 journal 1 book 1 article This is only the minimum. Please look at the attached marking sheet to see how you will be marked for your papers. Assignment Research Essay Length: 1500-2500 words Basic Concept of the Term Paper: Your research paper should be 1500 to 2500 words long (the equivalent of approximately 5-10 double-spaced, typewritten pages), not counting citations or pictures. Your paper should focus on the topic we have chosen together and provide a good detailed overview of what you have researched, as it relates to your topic. The paper should feel complete to the reader. You should be able to cover the main topic in enough detail to make the reader feel like you actually understand "how it works" overall. Your paper should cover a number of different pieces of information on your topic, rather than "beating to death" one or two of those issues. Avoid unnecessary repetition. The grade you receive will reflect how well your paper conveys an overall understanding your topic, including a fair amount of specificity. Don't be vague or mushy. In a research paper there really are correct and incorrect statements. Vague statements that can be misinterpreted in a way that makes them incorrect are not helpful. Please check your grammar and spelling, and proofread your papers. Bad writing will reduce your grade. Important Rules: D Originality: You are encouraged to use references, written or otherwise, but create the paper entirely on your own. Your term paper is an important assignment and must be original work, never submitted in any other venue in whole or part by you or anyone else. All the rules about plagiarism apply to this assignment. Language: Quotations should be rare and brief, appearing only when the wording of the quotation is itself important or memorable. Quotations should always be attributed to their authors. The structure and style of a passage or paper also belong to its author and may not be copied without full attribution. If you are in doubt about whether or not you can use something that appears in another person's work, ask me. Independence: You may not work with anyone else on an individual term paper and you may not use any other student's paper as a model, reference, or template for your own paper. Sources: The term paper is a research paper-you are expected to synthesize your own understanding of your topic, although that understanding may be based in part on information collected elsewhere. Visit the library. If you use the web, remember that the web is entirely unedited and contains a great deal of misinformation. You must cite your sources in the body of your paper wherever 5 appropriate and you must include a list of works cited and/or a bibliography at the end of your term paper. These lists should include any people or online materials that you consulted while preparing your paper. Please make sure that your paper has a proper title page, page numbers, footnotes and a reference list in alphabetical order. Key Suggestions: Audience: Your paper should be readable and informative to a student who is ing well in this class. That student is your target audience. Don't bore that student. Your space is precious in this paper, so use it wisely. Focus: Try to keep the paper well structured and fairly specific. Please don't ramble. If the reader gets lost, the reader will not be impressed. Organization: Your term paper will be graded only by me. You must ensure it relates to the topic you have chosen. You must also ensure that the reader has a good overall picture of the topic. In short, structure the paper carefully so that it provides a good overall picture and many specific details that fit clearly into that overall picture of what you are discussing. Expectations: I am expecting you to be working on this paper over a 6 week period. If you run into problems in your research and writing during this time, you should be talking to me during our regular class times, or send me an email. I do not want to find out in the few days before your paper is due that you are having problems. Organization of your time in carrying out this assignment is very important. The first week should be time for research. The second week should be used to prepare your first draft. You should then review your draft carefully and work in the third week to make any necessary changes for your final draft. If you can, it may be a good idea for you to have a friend read your paper and tell you if they feel anything is missing and if they understand the paper. You must provide me with a research topic idea and brief outline by 15 April You may provide me with a draft of your essay, not including citations or bibliography by June 1 You may provide me with a copy of your bibliography by Jun Is

CRIMINAL PSYCHOLOGY
Introduction
Criminal psychology is a discipline that deals with the study of criminal behavior in the
society including the thoughts, reactions, wills, and intentions of the criminals (Siegel). The
objective of criminal psychology is to provide an insight on why do individuals commit various
crimes and the reactions that follow thereafter. This helps in the improvement of the criminal
justice system by facilitating deception detection, jury decision-making, police interviewing.
Therefore, this paper will focus on why people commit a crime, impacts of crime, and how to
reduce crime in the society.

Why people commit a crime
Peer influence is one of the factors that makes some individuals commit a crime. This is
because when an individual associates with someone who is a notorious offender for a long time,
he/she also develops the courage and vice of committing a crime since crime becomes part of life
to such an individual. Many young people globally commit a crime due to peer influence,
particularly those who drop out of school and engage in drug abuse at a tender age. After teaming
up with the criminal groups, an individual is normally encouraged by others to engage in criminal

activities such as drug trafficking, robbery, theft, etc. and such a person develops a notion that the
only easier way to succeed in life in to engage in illegal business and yields instantly (White 6776).
The environment in which an individual is brought up is also another factor that contributes
to the criminal activities that we are witnessing in the world today. This is because the surrounding
physical & social environment determines the types of decisions that a young person makes in
terms of what he/she wants to be in life. The environment with poor development such as poor
infrastructure, vandalized buildings, poor schools, high rate of unemployment, lack of social
amenities, etc. is likely to record a high rate of criminal cases as compared to a developed
environment (Falk 1-11). A poorly developed environment gives no hope to young individuals and
it doesn’t inspire them to be successful in life since there is no physical example of the success
that they can emulate. Therefore, after giving up and losing hope in life, some of the people living
in those areas perceive engaging in criminal conduct as the only survival mechanism.
Failure to meet the set objective is a factor that causes some people commit a crime.
Generally, people have better expectations and targe...
