Immigration Policy Issue
Immigration is one of the most prominent concerns in the United States, more so, the
policy measures undertaken over the years have prompted heated debates over the matter.
Shortly after assuming power, Donald Trump instituted executive orders on the immigration
policy. They include; border security which demanded a physical wall for operational control on
the U.S- Mexico border. Expedition of foreigners without court trial and third banning the entry
of nationals from Muslim countries to the U.S for 90 days as a measure against terrorism (Felter
& Renwick, 2018). The changes attracted protests and legal challenges on the regime forcing a
revision. The debate is centered on the two political parties: Democrats who support immigration
and see it as a strength to the country and Republicans who see it as a "broken system.”
Immigration policy in the country creates a tag of war between law and order and diversity.
Extended by the concerns on whether to decrease, increase or not affect the immigration levels,
which groups to prioritize in entry and whether the policies are reinforcing national security and
interests. This paper will examine the core problem with immigration policies, explain ways to
fix the issues and call stakeholders to action.
The Problem
Americans conceding with the Republican affiliation support the Donald Trump’s
campaign theme that the immigration policies are very lenient which enable terrorists and
criminal Mexicans into the country. Alongside jeopardizing national security, they argue that
immigration brings in low-skilled workers and illiterate people which puts down wages and

cause a strain on federal resources (Nowrasteh, 2016). They suggest deportation on nondocumented foreigners in the nation. More so, the issue has divided Republicans among
themselves. A section led by White House aide impose strict restrictions according to time and
day as another led by Trump propose arrests, deportation of undocumented individuals and
permanent reduction in the number of immigrants. However, many Americans consider this a
non-issue in favor immigration for national diversity; immigrants also bring in competent, skilled
workers, again, when immigrant children mature, they become taxpayers contributing to national
revenues (Thompson, 2018).
Solutions
Practical solutions to the controversy include (National Immigration Forum, 2011):
Attracting bright minds to the US. The system has many barriers that discourage bright minds
and top talents from coming to the US. Adjusting the rule could entice them to work here rather
than compete against us. More specifically, international students should work in the U.S to
avoid brain drain and boost the economy.
Secondly, developing realistic measures to solve non-documentation is essential. While
illegal immigration is illegal, these individuals contribute to the economy and therefore deserve
proper treatment. Instead of deporting them, they should be verified for criminal records, tax
compliance and registered which may eventually earn the citizenship and legal status.

The problem can also be addressed by developing better strategies to counter threats and
maintain national security. Immigration policies should encompass procedures to detect
malicious immigration to prevent terrorists, smugglers, and lawbreakers. Improved systems to
screen and inspect entry into the country are necessary to track and trace immigration.
Lastly, improvise a work Visa scheme corresponding to the economy and labor needs to
control entry. Visas sometimes take a long time to issue, temporary once could stand in to enable
people immigrant lawfully in the country. Again, the numbers of immigrants may be controlled
depending on the economic episodes and workforce requirements. When the county is booming
and needs more labor, more immigrants can be allowed. Lastly, immigrants should be protected
by law to avoid mistreatment or victimization.
Calling the stakeholders to action
American is a land of opportunities; the American dream has been built partly through
inviting skilled and ambitious immigrants across the globe who help grow the economy in many
ways including; labor and tax contribution. Vicious political interests are influencing
immigration policies crippling the country's ability to resolve many problems. For instance,
while the nation reaps a lot from immigrants' contributions, the last time Congress adjusted the
immigrant quotas was in 1990 which explains illegal immigration (National Immigration Forum,
2011). Nevertheless, research reveals that unlawful immigration has substantially declined since
2004. Therefore, the illegal immigration concepts by Trump administration are exaggerations to

create fear and distrust (Kamarck & Stenglein, 2017). Furthermore, proposed solution by
Republicans like wall border (a physical barrier) will only impose further complexities.
The US immigration system is denied the flexibility of adjusting to market/labor
demands. It must be fixed as immigrants are integral to economic prosperity. Stakeholders are
therefore called to join and support protests in the effort of persuading authorities to provide
legal opportunities for immigrants in the U.S to avoid detrimental impacts in the future.
The protest
The agenda of the protest is pressure the government to; 1) drop the hard-lined restrictions on
immigration 2) Reform the immigration policies to allow immigration corresponding to
economic needs of the country and 3) Protect immigrants from victimization and quicken the
process of issuing legal status. Moreover, participants will comprise of the civilian and
immigrants both adults and children. The objective is to mobilize as many people as possible and
have them physically join the protest march. An outreach to mobilize masses will be done
comprehensively through; 1) webs including email lists, Facebook events, media sites and print
media. 2) Person-to-person through fliers, door-to-door, texts and calls. 3) Creating and building
hype through social media stunts, filming and organizing panels.
On another note, the protests are scheduled to happen at the congress grounds and run in the
afternoon right after the house assumes sitting to catch attention and efficiently deliver. The

activity will feature body painting, dances, and musical instruments like drums and trumpets to
make it noisy, exciting and unique. Protestants will be obliged to brand everything including
clothes, banners or papers with messages surrounding the agenda. However, the central theme of
the day will be “Trump doesn't need the immigrants, the economy does." The statement is a
satirical statement directed to ridicule the administration for its negative influence on
immigration policy. It reminds the administration and the president that is not about their desires
or affiliations about immigration but the economy's prosperity.
The protest will be a peaceful one as we plan to lias with the police. Personalized messages
will feature broadly to inflict guilt on to the personalities imposing on the policies by blaming
them over the state of the economy. The protest will begin with a march to the protest area where
the scenes for attention will occur. Lastly, the day’s events shall be documented through media
to mark the day as a historical event.
