Abstract
In the modern society, people committing intentional or deliberate suicide, bombing,
racial killing, massacre, and mass slaughter have become a norm in our society. As technology
world evolves, new equipment for massive killings such as atomic bombs, poisonous gases, and
grenades have been invented to support perpetrators missions. The big question now is whether
people committing genocide have innate characteristics that trigger them to undertake the
heinous activity or they are doing it out of other personal influences and psychological aspects.
To unearth such question, this paper is structured into the analysis of major genocides that have
been committed, members of a group, extreme ideology, power and control, obedience and
unquestioned authority, and offering a personal perspective.
Membership of a group
In a well-researched study conducted by Holmes (2017) to examine the correlation and
prevalence of a person in a criminal group to commit a crime, it was concluded that skewed
mentality of members of a criminal gang, terrorist group, and other dangerous groups trigger
them to participate in heinous activities in order to satisfy their ego-centrism. The desire for
