As a 21-year-old girl from a Mexican family living in Los Angeles, my dream has always
been to pursue higher studies in New York City. Living in the cultural background of LA offered
me an appreciation of richness and understanding of the personal growth key of diversity and the
enrichment of the academic experience. My travel to this dream has been to Santa Monica
College, where I have been making the firm ground for my flight into educational pursuits,
especially psychology, for the last two years.
The decision to attend Santa Monica College came first from the need for some time in
transition—a gap year by exploring personal interests and learning how to live while in
university and life in general. Reflecting on my experiences and aspirations, I am ready for the
challenges and opportunities such a prestigious institution like New York University (NYU)
would provide.
Attending NYU would be a step further toward my educational objectives and one more
frontier in personal development toward independence and self-discovery. It has been an honor,
and I am satisfied with the opportunity to be in a dynamic environment like New York City. This
opportunity ensures one develops one's thinking ability, opens one's mind, and creates
independence. NYU's deep commitment to diversity and inclusion echoes my values instilled
from growing up in LA. In this incredibly vibrant community at NYU, people from very
different backgrounds come together to learn and engage with one another. In response, NYU is
a perfect breeding ground for varied celebrations of multicultural diversities to nurture students
as world citizens prepared for a world that’s becoming interconnected at a faster rate.
Furthermore, NYU's renowned psychology program aligns perfectly with my academic
interests and career aspirations. I look forward to this opportunity to learn from the esteemed

faculty, be engaged in cutting-edge research, and undertake further study on the complexities of
human behavior for valuable contributions to psychology.
Furthermore, the solid opportunity to study abroad at NYU would inestimably offer
chances to further deepen and widen my academic experience by getting involved with other
cultures and getting a more profound perception of the human condition. My gap year was an
eye-opener. Having gone through 16 countries, it was a transformative experience that just
cemented my passion for psychology and, one more time, drove home just how important it is
for cultural competence to be in place for people to be able to listen and be listened to.
In conclusion, this transfer is a realignment of my academic dreams, personal
development goals, and cultural values. With the full community support and the diverse
opportunities provided at NYU, all the excellence in commitment needed for me to excel within
its academic and personal walks of life, I am sure, are guaranteed. I am excited to add to this
milestone that the NYU community and this incredible journey will help make my dreams a
reality.

percentage as a means to start a formative conversation with their student and/or use it to examine the submitted assignment in
