Pretrial detention and the concept of bail
People in the society commits different offenses for which they are punished for when
proved guilty in a court of law. The judicial system has various punishments for different levels
of offenses that are committed in the society. The accused are therefore has to defend themselves
effectively in order to prove themselves innocent. This way, they are able to avoid being
punished or fined for an offense they did not commit. Sometimes the accused can be detained
before they are tried in a court of law. The detention of the defendants before arraigning them in
a court of law is referred to as pretrial detention. It occurs in situations where the accused hinders
or is in a position to prevent investigation on them hence they have to pave way for the
investigation to be carried out effectively (Sacks & Ackerman, 2014). The court issues a warrant
of arrest and detention of a suspect as they are investigated and the evidence collected. Under
these circumstances, the accused can be detained prior to their trial in a court of law.
The accused can be fined some amount of money or asked to bail themselves out by
paying some specified amount of money. If a suspect is unable to bail themselves out, they are
