Ethics are components of our growing up. We derive or are indoctrinated in some of
ethical understanding and behavior as part of our growing up. It guides us to be social beings;
learning what to do and what not to do. In retrospect, we use ethics to fit into a social construct
that we have little understanding of, with the hope that we will be accepted. Each ethical
perspective we harbor today is a result of how our parents or the society taught us to survive, in
an environment that demanded we behave or be rational to ethos and values that control/run it
(Astorga, 2010). As human beings, we derive our ethical guidelines from those influences that
allows us to review who we are as individuals in a society that has certain expectations.
Experiences provide the best and perhaps the most effective determinant in forming ethical
perspectives. Coupled with a religious and societal value system, we use our experiences to
judge ourselves as either deserving or undeserving, with the hope that we will find common
