Corporate Social Responsibility
The articles, “May, S. (2016). Corporate Social Responsibility. How Corporates’ can
become Socially Responsible 1-123. doi:10.1002/9781118083246.ch5” has really help me to
develop a better understanding of Corporate Social Responsibility. This is because the article
outlines clearly that companies have a role to play in promoting Corporate Social Responsibility
(CSR). Based on this article, the organization can promote CSR by ensuring that there is
transparency in its operations, an act that builds public trust and confidence. Most importantly, this
article emphasizes the promotion of CSR through community support and innovation. The strength
of this article is that it has highlighted the main ways of promoting Corporate Social
Responsibility. It has also outlined the importance of CSR such an increase in the public trust and
confidence. However, this article has several weaknesses. Firstly, it has outlined only a few ways
of promoting CSR while excluding some important strategies such as control of environmental
pollution, empowerment of the society, and volunteer programs. Moreover, there is a lot of
generalization in this article without specific ways of promoting Corporate Social responsibility.
The external threat to the validity of this article is that promoting CSR through transparency
depends on the behavior and moral standards of the organization’s management.
The second articles, “Thomsen, S. (2015). Corporate Governance and Corporate Social
Responsibility.

Social
Responsibility,

1-67.
Doi:

Responsibility in the society and how organizations can enhance it. The main strength of this article
is that it has captured several aspects that enhance CSR such as the formulation of policies to
integrate the environment, social, human rights, ethics and consumer concerns. However, the

weakness of this article is that the importance of Corporate Social Responsibility has not been
emphasized. However, the potential threat that is likely to affect the validity of this article is lack
of acknowledgement of the role CRS plays in the society.

These peer-reviewed articles have helped me in have a deeper understanding of
corporate social responsibility. This paper discusses the importance of each article and what I
have learned from them.

Responsible 1-123. doi:10.1002/9781118083246.ch5
This article has helped me learn how companies can improve corporate social
responsibility. The first way is practicing transparency. Company managers are advised not to try
to divert attention or obfuscate from the way it conducts business. Businesses should be
aggressive and embrace transparency. Also, they should adopt best practices to earn trust and
honesty from its customers. The second way is making sustainable purchasing decisions.
Engaging in fair business practices makes the company get admired by the customers. The third
way discussed in the article being actively involved in activities of the community. Other ways
include supporting the local community and encouraging innovation.

This article has helped me understand the role of corporate social responsibility. I have
learned that companies that have committed to CSR have enhanced their reputation of what they
stand for in the cynical business world. The article singled out CSR as an essential element of a
firm's competitiveness. Companies are required to formulate policies and procedures which will
help in integrating environmental, social, human rights, ethics and consumer concerns into its

operations. Finally, it has helped me understand the significance of companies having a positive
impact the society they exist.
I find the article on ways on how companies can become socially responsible to be more
compelling because it not only discusses the importance of corporate social responsibility but
also how companies can become socially responsible.
Trustworthiness in Qualitative Research
The concept of trustworthiness in qualitative research deals with establishing findings which are
confirmable, dependable, transferable and credible. This is because, in qualitative research,
researchers do not use instruments which have established metrics of reliability and validity.
The two article research articles I reviewed have represented the truth of the matter on the
ground, they can be applied other contexts, the results are based on findings from participants
and if the researchers are repeated consistent findings can be found.
