Description
I have attached the prompt, library catalog directions, and story that is required for the essay. everything must be in MLA format including the works cited. I chose "Story of an Hour" by Kate Chopin and have a PDF file of the story attached for proper MLA citation. I must include 5 secondary sources and the book from which the story is found. The secondary sources must be found using the Blinn Library catalog (directions attached) under the log in of.. U: alexys.kenvin81 p:041198 . The sources need to be found in the "Criticism and Interpretation" or "History and Criticism" as stated on the library catalog. I would like my paper to talk about how the feelings and emotions of the story are reflected through the scenery (ie. the weather, the difference between the upstairs and downstairs of the house, the description of the chair, etc.)

Research Paper on the Story of an Hour" By Kate Chopin
The story of an hour is a short story written by Kate Chopin in the year 1894. Kate
Chopin was born to a Creole-Irish family as Katherine O’Flaherty. She was raised by her mother,
grandmother, and great-grandmother following the death of her father when she was just four.
She received the formal education. Kate Chopin was married to Oscar Chopin in 1870, a
Louisiana business guru, with whom she bore six children. The couple lived in Natchitoches and
New Orleans before the death of her husband, Chopin, in 1884. At these places, she became
engrossed in making observations about the Creole and Cajun life. Kate later relocated to her
birthplace, St. Louis, after her husband’s death, where she began her literary career. Kate Chopin
was born in the year 1850 and later died at the age of 54 years in 1904.
Some of her works include a collection of stories, that is, Bayou Folk launched in 1894
and A Night in Acadie that was done in 1897. She also wrote a classic novel, The Awakening, in
1899 whose main theme was female sexuality which elicited a storm of criticism, (Chopin, Kate
page 212-232). She was able to do all these works in slightly over a decade owing to her formal
education and her passion for writing.
The story is based on the character, Mrs Mallard, her husband, Brently Mallard, her
sister, Josephine, and her husband’s friend, Richard. It is based on the varying emotions and

feelings that are displayed and experienced by Mrs Mallard according to the different
environments that she is found in. Mrs Mallard is suffering from an affliction caused by a heart
problem. In the story, Brently Mallard, Mrs Mallard’s husband, is purported to be involved in a
railroad accident disaster that killed several other people. His name is at the top of the list of
casualties who perished in the railroad disaster.
Richard was the first recipient of the news reporting the death of Brently Mallard in the
railroad disaster. He had first-hand information concerning the same. He had been at the
newspaper office when the report about the r...
