In this paper, I will expound on how legal process and practices which have been laid
down to ensure that the defendants, especially those from the special population, have speedy
access to justice. This will involve the process of the trial, jury selection as well as the techniques
which will ensure that the defendant’s rights to obtain a speedy trial, impartial judge and jury are
followed. The discussion will be based on literature and court cases as well as their decisions.
When a plaintiff files a case against a defendant in a court of law, there is a processes
which follows before the defendant can be declared guilty or exonerated and pronounced
innocent based on the evidence available. Among these elements which have been categorically
outlined by the United States law is that the defendant should have access to the attorney. This is
well recorded in the Sixth Amendment. This has been noted by Whitebread and Slobogin (2000).
Besides, the defendant also possesses the rights to be tried within reasonable timelines
