The Gun Control Discussion
Introduction
The discussion on gun control has been one that has been ranging for a long time. The discussion
as to whether gun ownership is an effective deterrence to crime has continued to permeate even
religious circles. The growing cases of senseless shootings around the country have demanded
that the people, the civil society, the church, and the government engage in this sensitive
discussion. There is a growing gap between the leftists and those supporting gun ownership as
the right move forward. However, the gun ownership debate is not about who wields a gun or
how that gun is wielded. This is a discussion about the American people and their understanding
of crime. Particular to this discussion has been the involvement of the police force into this

conversation on the individuality of the American society in the face of changing social
constructs.

owning of guns (Hepburn and Hemenway 12). It demanded a discussion on the issue of gun
ownership as it relates to crime and held perceptions. The incident did not automatically bring to
the forefront the discussion about gun control, but rather prepared the ground for a more
extensive discussion about ...
