Biograpical Report on Catullus
Generally, the life of Gaius Valeries Catullus is little known. According to most
literature, Catullus was born in Verona in the year 84 B.C. Catullus happened to come from a
well-connected and wealth family. As a matter of fact, Catullus father happened to be friend of
the famous Roman leader, Julius Caeser. At the age of thirty, Catullus died in Rome in the year
54 B.C.
Most importantly, it is crucial to identify the genre of Catullus’ works. Catullus
specialized in a genre known as Neoteric poetry. Generally, the poets in this genre refer to a
group of Latin and Greek poets. Most of these poets got their work published in between the
years 31-323 BC. Catallus and other Neoterics were characterized by a different trend that
seemed to take a trend that was away from what the conventional classical Homeric poetry
advocated for.
