Family and early life
The fourth born in a family of eight was born in May 19, 1925 at Omaha in the state of
Nebraska. His father, Earl Little, was a Baptist minister and a member of the Universal Negro
Improvement Association. Due to his father’s prominence in the organization and his outright
support for Marcus Garvey, the family suffered harassment from Ku Klux Klan and at the age of
four, the harassment reached extreme levels, with the clan attacking the family and smashing all
