Classrooms are complex places that require management to simplify the complexity.
Classroom management comprises of a set of behaviors and strategies teachers use to control
students behavior with the aim of promoting engagement and motivation for learning (Evertson
& Emmer, 2013). Middle school students are growing intellectually, physically, emotionally and
socially hence need a safe, secure and comfortable environment for effective learning. This paper
identifies and discusses three videos demonstrating motivation, engagement, and classroom
management practices applicable and useful with middle school grade level. In the second part, a
reflection on ways to create engagement by highlighting on signs to check in an engaging
student, role of each student in a group activity, ways to monitor student understanding and
description of an engaging and motivating learning environment.
