By Sahithya Gillela Creating brand awareness is one of the most important marketing features and any kind of negative publicity could harm the brand reputation; hence care must be taken before implementing such buzz strategies. However there is a subtle difference between the creating awareness and creating buzz for a particular product. The buzz marketing is the science of getting people to talk about your business, and it’s something that marketers can learn to do (Hughes, 2014). The difference is that the goal of buzz marketing is to get people talking about the brand and not just to make people aware that your brand exists (Hughes, 2014). Mark Hughes has described the six important buttons of buzz marketing a) Taboo (controversial)creating controversial topics to get public attention and to get people talking, b) The Unusual (unique)- the goal of this button is to create a product positioning or content that stands out from the crowd, c) The Remarkable - The goal here is to doing something extremely well and with an extremely high quality, d) Outrageous – the Outrageous marketing content needs to be connected to your brand and promote what you do, e) The Hilarious - Hilarious videos and articles get shared like wildfire because people like to laugh and to talk about things that make them laugh, f) The Secrets (Kept and Revealed)- the revealing of little sneak peaks of the business’s behind the scenes, like showing the efforts of the company could help in the acknowledging the brand and product. Another application is to give some customers a sneak peak of a new product or service (Hughes, 2014). These six buttons of buzz marketing could create enormous changes and could make the customers more attractive towards a particular brand and its products. In order to get more out of buzz marketing, try combining two or more of these buzz buttons in one campaign could be beneficial. One of the easiest ways to get more out of buzz marketing efforts is to take extra time to create remarkable products, content, and campaigns. Ultimately the quality of the product is of outmost importance, without which none of the marketing strategies could be of help in sustaining the product for long in the outside markets.
