WHAT SHOULD STRATEGIC PLAN AND IT INFRASTRUCTURE INCLUDE? FINAL PROEJCT MGSC 300 DR DUDA A strategic plan provides a road map for accomplishing specified goals. Strategic planning may be utilized on a large scale, such as planning for business growth over several years or to help a nonprofit or governmental organization reach its stated mission. • • • • • • • • • • • • Introductory Statement - If you include an introductory statement, it should briefly describe why the strategic plan was developed and for what time period, plus the authors of the plan. Background Statement - This section may provide information about the organization such as history, management structure, and supporting partners or agencies. Alternatively, you could use this section as a brief business statement - more of an elevator pitch - to concisely describe your business. Organizational Structure - Include this information if it’s relevant to evaluate how your business or organization operates and is structured - from governing board to staffing. Vision - A vision statement should briefly describe what a company wants to achieve or become. This is one of the primary organizational tenets to consider, along with values and mission. Values - These are the principles that an organization stands for and abides by. Many businesses create core value statements to guide company culture. Mission Statement - A mission statement describes the purpose of a business or organization. This is distinct from a vision statement because it is not a projected goal for the future. Problem Statement - Some plans include a problem statement, which can outline key or discrete issues that need to be addressed. PORTER`s five forces analysis to provide an analysis of the market the company wants to get in or get better External analysis the analysis of the external forces that impact the company SWOT Analysis - A SWOT analysis provides a foundation and context for developing strategy by examining the strengths and weaknesses within and organization as well as external opportunities and threats. Goals - As stated earlier, a strategic plan may include long-term as well as more short-term (monthly and quarterly) goals. Objectives should be measurable and broken down into actionable steps, and the action plan for each goal should specify who is responsible for implementing the strategy, a timeline for starting and ending the action, and how the outcome will be evaluated. Evaluation - Methods for evaluation should be spelled out in the strategic plan. This could include tracking key performance indicators (KPIs) and documenting the progress of action steps on an ongoing basis. IT infrastructure are the basic hardware, software, networks and facilities upon which an organization's information technology services are built. The following are common examples. FACEBOOK STRATEGIC PLAN

2
Introduction

The values of strategic planning in the social media industry cannot be overlooked.
Strategic planning is essential in ensuring that the leadership of an organization is more proactive
and helps in lessening the need to manage issues on an ad hoc basis in times of crisis. Strategic
planning helps the company to continuously engage in continuous planning and goal setting
thereby making the company to be a forward-thinking organization. The strategic plan is
designed to be a comprehensive, structured approach that includes both the external and internal
input data from a variety of stakeholders, including the board of directors and the senior
management staff of the company. The data collected is essential in developing a usable strategic
plan that serves as a scan of the environment, and it provides the management with civic
engagement and thoughtful input. The strategic management plan, therefore, works as a
prediction of the future of the company by giving the various action points that could be
accomplished and the input from multiple sources and work to propel active thinking among
individuals. The strategic plan also acts as a motivation tool to the members of the organization;
encouraging them to work towards a particular direction and to stick to result-oriented activities
rather than trying to achieve everything at once. The strategic plan increases the commitment of
the members towards the organization and enables them to create realistic goals and objectives
while working in the organization with an aim to increase the productivity of the company.
Company Background
Facebook was founded by Mark Zuckerberg who was a student at Harvard University
taking a course in psychology. He had profound skills in computer studies especially in areas of
programming. Zuckerberg created several social media networks, among them Course Match
and Facemash. In February, 2004 Zuckerberg launched Facebook. The social media site grew

very first in Harvard and within one month most of the students at the university had signed up.
The technology was quickly adopted by other institutions to other universities such as the United
States University and later introduced to high schools. In 2006 the network spread beyond the
educational institutions to all those that had an email address and the site was free to join.
Zuckerberg made profit on his site through advertisements. Many companies including Yahoo
and Google have shown an interest in wanting to buy the company, but the owner Mark
Zuckerberg has so far refused to sell it out. The highest number of users that the company has
achieved so far is 30 million, and this makes it the largest social-networking site with a focus on
education (Hong, Fu-Yuan, and Su-Lin Chiu, 2014).
Organizational Structure
The organizational structure of the company is designed to suit that technology of the
company’s needs. A company’s structural orientation should be able to define the conformation
and the strategy of the organization ability to achieve its targets. It’s the orientation of the
business that makes it adopt the kind of structure that it has in terms of management and the
structure is a key tool in helping the business to support its activities. The company has what is
known as a matrix organizational structure that can address the company’s need for innovation
and creativity. The main features of the company’s organization structure the corporate
functions, geographical partitions and the product oriented divisions. The commercial functionbased teams are maintained in the structure of the organization depending on the operational
activities that they perform and this is mainly needs of the online social media business which in
most cases included research and development. Geographic divisions are the regional divisions,
and the geographic position is the cause of the structural distinctiveness. The company practices
the concept of different geographic sites as a way to cater for the variance in social networks, and

advertising market dynamics and hence these factors address the discrepancies between the
actions of individuals and the different advertisers that utilize the platform. The human resources
also are managed regionally, and they function based on the regional management teams. The
last branch of the organization is the product based division, and its structural features involve
both the corporate and international teams that take care of activities that concern specific
products of the company. This is as a result of the company’s advanced technology and online
nature as a social networking company. Even though currently the corporation is focused on
social networking website there is a potential for the expansion and diversification that are being
put into consideration by the company’s management. The company is therefore headed towards
adding towards more products to the organizational structure. Facebook employs some
supporters from across the...
