Description

1) 10 printed articles related to your topic( LGBT RIGHT ) , all from 2018, and all from the required news sites on the assignment sheet.

2) Two paragraphs for EACH article. Some people attach a separate piece of paper after each article. One paragraph with the main point; one paragraph with your reaction/comment/connections. Think of this as the building blocks for your paper. You should have 20 paragraphs in total. These may be short.

3) One formal paper (see instructions for details) with a thesis about the topic you studied from the newspapers. Most of your support/evidence for this paper will come from the newspapers, but be sure to include some specific historical component/connection from readings assigned in the class or the American Yawp or a reliable outside source (e.g., sites ending in .edu).

Write, type, and submit a brief summary and reaction to each of your selected articles, and link them to the other ones you collected. The combined summary/reaction for each article should be at least two paragraphs. Your summary must include information on the author’s main points as well as evidence on how/she supports them. Your reaction should also include who wrote it (if it is provided), the date, and your assessment of how persuasive the article is and why and how it connects to your theme and other selected articles. Put your summary/reactions (along with the articles above) together in a packet for submission

Write and type an opinion piece of 500 to 600 words in which you express your viewpoint on the current issue and connect it to the history that is covered in this class (e.g., US history from 1860 to approximately 1980). Consider comparing/contrasting the present issue with what you know about similar issues in the past. Rely on the textbook and assigned readings first, but you may have to turn to other sources—see me for pre-approval of the sites you intend to use

Cooper, Jonathan. "LGBT rights are on the line today in the government's Brexit bill." 23
April 2018. Indepedent . 6 May 2018. .
According to the article, the EU was a major force in the legislation of LGBT rights in
the UK and the brexit event poses a major threat to the realization of this phenomenal rights. The
author states that since the EU has a human righhts Charter, if the Brexit occurs, most of the
human rights activism will be diminished in the UK. Although the LGBT laws charter exists, it
seems there will be no enough force to recognize it after the brexit in 2019. The EU has been a
major force in the recognition of LGBT rights in the region and it is through that if the brexit
occurs, LGBT rights will diminish.
In my opinion, the author presents information, drawing from historical data and
information that LGBT rights were once a non recognized issue in the UK and it is only the EU
force that has helped it be recognized in the region. In the same light, it is argued that the Brexit
call would shake this established consensus on LGBT rights. Although this could be true, it can
be argued that since the LGBT rights are now constitutionally recognized, it could last in the UK.
Crary, David. "Bills to curtail LGBT rights are failing in state legislatures." 17 April 2018.
Chicago Tribune. 6 May 2018.

According to the author David Crary, who wrote the article on 17, April 2018, there is
pressure in the coutry against all legislations that prevented LGBT rights, terming them as being
discriminatory. There are about 120 bills according to LGBT activists that might pose a threat to
LGBT rights. The authro states that any legislations that is discriminatory is not considered as
pop politics anymore. With big businesses such as Amazon and Apple supportng LGBT rights,
many see it as a threat to curtailing of LGBT rights.
In my opinion, the author gathers enough evidence on the issue and there is sure proof
that LGBT rights will be recognized and passed in all the anti-LGBT states. This is following the
fact that many major companies including Apple and Amazon has recognized and accepted LGT
rights. The increasing activism on the issue will also ensure that the :GBT rights are passed in all
the states in the US.
Einhorn, Bruce. "Goldman, BlackRock Fight for LGBT Rights in Hong Kong." 24 April
2018. Bloomberg. 6 May 2018. .
According to the article, when Patrick Sinclair and Marty Forth travveled to Hong Kong,
they got difficulties settling since Hong Kong did not support LGBT rights. This forced Marty
Forth to enter the country as a visitor, despite him being Sinclair’s partner. Many proposers of
the LGBT rights have risen in Hong Kong, comparing it with other developed and multicultural
countries in the world, who have allowed for LGBT rights. The author also points out that the
issue of LGBT rights has divided opiniions in Kong Kong, with the young and educated

individuals advocating for LGBT rights while older individuals appearing more conservative on
the issue.
The article was written by Bruce Einhorn, a Bloomberg author on April 24, 2018. In my
opinion, the author presents enough evidence to support his arguments, gathering data from
representatives such as Patrick Sinclair, a former US assistant attorney, Bruce Larson and many
other individuals. The fight for LGBT rights in Hong Kong is real and it is expected that with
time, Hong Kong political class will cave in a support LGBT rights. This is following pressure
and support for the LGBT rights from many companies and individuals.
Gray, Sarah. "LGBT Rights May Be a Factor in Amazon's HQ2 Pick. Here's how." 27
April 2018. Fortune. 6 May 2018. .
According to the author, Amazon has allowed for LGBT rights in their plans to set up
their new headquarters. Jeff Bezzos, the owner of Amazon has been cited to support LGBT
rights and will allow LGBT individuals to be a part of the employees. However, the bathroom
bill poses a concern, where LGBT individuals are required to use the restroom as identified in
their birth certificate and not as they have grown to be identified. Although some activists have
come up with plans to discredit Amazon for its suport for LGBT rights, many organizations and
individuals have praised Amazon for the move.
This article was written by Sarah Gray on 27, April 2018 and mainly highlights why and
how Amazon is in for the support of LGBT rights. In my opinion, the author has enough
supporting evidence for the work, citing Jeff Bezos himself for the awards he has won for his
support of LGBT rights as well as resistances that he has exhibited in marshalling him against
