In this chapter, "Injuries as a Community & Public Health Problem", we are looking at "unintentional injuries" as well as "intentional injuries" and we will examine some of the strategies for the prevention and control of unintentional injuries. With this in mind...what are the basic functions that community (public) health organizations perform in response to local emergencies and disasters? Do they bear a responsibility in the training of the citizens of communities within the 5 boroughs of NYC in preparation for emergencies and disasters? How important is this? Discuss methods of ensuring community health safety and preparedness.

One of the rampant emergency and disaster that affects a community is an injury. Injuries
are caused by short-term exposure to physical vehicles such as ionizing radiations, chemicals,
electricity, heat, and mechanical energy. These agents interact with individual’s body in levels
higher than the human tolerance thresholds. Injuries are either intentional or unintentional. An
intentional injury refers to those ruled as inflicted while unintentional injury results from
intended actions. Injuries are expensive to a society because they cause economic loss and
human suffering.
Basic Functions of Community Health Organizations in Response to Disasters
Community or public health organizations play imperative roles in response to
