1. How does Thornton Wilder make the Stage Manager a memorable, likable, and trustworthy character? Use
evidence from the text to support your answer.
The stage manager is a paramount character in the play. First, he introduces the play to the
audience and thereby gives his impending appearance. Throughout the play, the stage manager
pauses the play to give an explanation that throws light unto what is transpiring in the play and the
change in times. The stage manager also participates in the acting and takes center roles in the play,
example; the role of the clergyman. The stage manager is likeable because he communicates with a
sense of humor.
