Question Description

I need an explanation for this Social Science question to help me study.

Each student must submit an analytical essay on an approved topic.The essay must be an examination of creative works that come out of the African Diaspora.These might be literary works, music, films, paintings, plays, or other forms of visual or performing arts.The content of the essay must fit one of the following options:

Option 1 – Compare and contrast contemporary creative works that come out of the African Diaspora with works produced during an earlier time period.The contemporary works must have been produced since 1995, and the other works should be at least 15 years older.The essay should examine themes, ideas, and/or topics related to the course.

I choose option 1 and was going to compare NWA's music with Kendrick Lamars " To pimp a butterfly. and discuss how both of them touch on themes for instance like racism, oppression , and other social issues from the african american expirience.

Societal development is based on the input that various individuals put in place by
highlighting important issues within the society in order to get public attention and ensure that
important strategies are developed to improve the situation. African American citizens have
undergone significant challenges in their development across different states within the United
States. Key individuals have played a significant role in highlighting the plight of African
American citizens in a number of ways including music through development of informative
lyrics. The challenges facing African American citizens within the United States continue each
day and putting these challenges into creative works plays a key role in sensitizing the public about
what is happening. Therefore, this research will provide a significant review on some of the most
influential African American artists of all time who played a significant role in shaping the society
through their strong lyrics. Tupac Shakur and Kendrick Lamar will form the basis of this research,
which will provide a detailed understanding on a number of key themes within the society.
Putting important message into creative work such as music helps spreading a greater focus
on the underlying important elements, which define individual understanding on issues of great
public concern. It also helps provide a string history where it is possible for individual to look back
at their struggles and appreciate how far they have come in pursuing change. Change within social
environment does not come easy but requires sustained and spirited campaigns to attract public
attention and develop a greater level of understanding on key elements that can be put in place to
reverse the situation (Massey, 2016).
Therefore, it is important to understand the existing key influences that these great artists
of African descent managed to achieve during the course of their professional singing. There are
many artists but very few integrate informative message in their lyrics. Even though the main



purpose of songs is to entertain, educative and informative aspect are form key aspects which can
be positive engaged within the society and transform the lives of individuals either positively or
negatively depending on the message that is being relayed.
The key themes that are integrated in this case include cultural engagement, racism, police
harassment and brutality, poverty, crime and drugs. However, it is important to understand that the
manner in which the lyrics are developed, it is difficult to have a clear understanding since in most
cases the lyrics are poetic in nature and thus require critical analysis in order to decipher what a
given song is talking about. In most cases, the use of imagery is dominant although the meaning
is very clear to the public and can be easily interpreted. Successful engagement depends on the
ability to develop positive understanding on the objective of an artist when writing a given song.
The current events at the time play a key influence on most of the lyrics that these artists write.
Writing music about vital issues in the society is aimed at creating awareness and sensitizing the
public (Holt, 2016).
