Stereotype

A stereotype can be explained as having a specific thought or mindset about a specific group of
persons. This can be about a specific people from a specific origin of people or society. It can be
best explained by the ideology that most American people have on Muslims from the middle east
being terrorists.


cultural insensitivity

Cultural insensitivity can be explained by a failure to understand person’s background culture.
This happens when one does not respect the cultural practices and beliefs of the other person.
Insensitivity results in the basic social problems such as discrimination, and racism.


cultural incapacity

This condition can be explained by hostility in hosting new people from different geographical
origins and cultures. The conditions can be explained by the condition when the US citizens not
being friendly to immigrants. The condition can be as a result of stereotype.


discrimination

Discrimination can be defined as depressing persons basing on the person's relationship or
ideology with/on the group. Discrimination can best be defined by a condition where a person
from specific marginal groups are excluded in the society an example being the ideology of the
blacks being criminals and not safe to interact with.

Ch.2 level of cultural competency
The levels of cultural competence are low. Understanding other people concerning the difference
in cultures origin and other factors is a very hard task. Majority of the people do not manage the
problem making the levels low. This can be evident from the regularity of discrimination cases.

The five intervention skills recommended by Ho (1992) in Chapter 7
In the quest to archive cultural competence, the following skills were recommended. The cultural
competence would be archived through an increase in social activities between the various
communities; then the next would be through education facilities that would favor interactions
between the various groups, then next would be through trade fairs to encourage trade interactions
between the groups.
Study table 8.1 in Chapter 8 on microaggression
The general concept of microaggression is much more than racism as it deals with a multiple of
marginalized groups. The major population oppresses the marginalized groups. The concept was
first discussed by a psychiatrist and a professor at Harvard, Chester M. Pierce in 1970 with the aim
of describing the insults and degrading of the black Americans and immigrants. The concept does
not deal with racism alone, but it involves degrading with the basis of social class, disability,
gender, and religion.
