Description

This assignment requires a basic--no PowerPoint or other graphics--presentation of approximately 4-5 minutes covering one of these topics. Presentations should provide a concise case, summing the major points of the debate, if applicable, and providing a short forecast of future impacts surrounding each issue. A brief paper submission--index card-- of the topic title and the three major points to be discussed is required. Tentatively, as topic choices may change, students will be assigned among:

  • A study of your country of ancestral origin, including
  • ...a general assessment of the country and a closer look at 3 or more of the units we have covered in class
  • Open space and farm land preservation: how do we "save the space?" or

High quality agricultural land and open, undeveloped expanses are growing scarce. How do we protect these areas fairly?

  • Transportation modal choice in America: time for a change in strategy?

More and more highways have led to more congestion. What about the rivers and rails for freight and passengers?

  • Urban & community evolution, or What will the mid-century neighborhood, town, or city look like?

I already did majority of the assignment and I will post that below. All you will need to do is elaborate on the topics I brought up to make it a 500 world double spaced page paper (2 pages). I will attach my outline below. BASICALLY TAKE THE INFO I TYPED UP IN THIS OUTLINE AND ELABORATE SO IT REACHES A 500 PAGE PAPER.

Hello everyone, I am going to talk about my birth country, Iraq. As you may know, Iraq is the cradle of civilization. Babylon, one of the oldest known civilizations coined the earliest breakthroughs in trade, law, and socialization. The great King Hammurabi is known for establishing the first ever code of law. Today, I intend to focus on the reasons why Iraq has eroded socially, politically, and economically. There is widespread belief that Iraq's problems are related to security, terrorism, and dictatorship. While these arguments are true, evidence also shows that Iraq is facing many problems related to infrastructure, environmental degradation, and lack of resources. First, Iraq's infrastructure has been gradually failing for the past 100 years. Iraq is rich with natural resources; however, the nation’s dry and rugged terrain forces most Iraqi's to settle in major population centers. The presence of millions of Iraq's in three major cities places great strain on physical infrastructure, scarce water resources, and the environment. Baghdad is the second largest city in the middle east after Cairo. The so-called city of peace is home to more than 7 million individuals. The presence of so many people in one city has completely depleted water resources and placed great strain on the nation’s electricity grid. Man-induced climate change is a major problem in Iraq. In the absence of a national rail and train system, there are millions of old vehicles on the road. Outside of wealthy areas, there are very few energy-efficient vehicles on the road. It is common to see hundreds of dirty diesel trucks on the road in just one day. Iraq has some of the largest proven oil reserves in the world. The country has continued to refine oil at an alarming rate to generate revenue for the cash strapped government. Iraq has yet to develop other industries that are softer on the environment. In the aftermath of nearly 35 years of continuous warfare, the people of Iraq are fighting over dwindling resources. The chances of Iraq overcoming these challenges are slim to none. The government must first end warfare, achieve national reconciliation, and create a roadmap for promoting sustainable living
