The classification of the biological agent that I will be detailing is smallpox, which most notably was spread to North America by European settlers when colonizing the area. Signs and symptoms of smallpox initially include high fever, head and body aches, and vomiting. This is followed by a development of a rash which manifests as, "small red spots on the tongue and in the mouth... these spots change into sores that break open and spread large amounts of the virus into the mouth and throat," for which lasts about 4 days and is most contagious (CDC 2016).
