Judicial review is the court's action process of looking into laws and actions from other

branches of government, executive and legislature, to determine if they are constitutional. The
power to do this is not in the constitution but has been used by the courts after the case of
Marbury v. Madison in 1803 where Chief justice of the Supreme Court, John Marshall, overrules
the writs on mandamus which was in the Act of 1789 deeming it unconstitutional (Benzine,
2015). Judicial review is important as it gives the judiciary the power to redefine laws based on
how it thinks the laws will shape the future of the nation.
