A statistical technique that can show whether and how strongly pairs of variables are related. Examples being how height and weight are related even though the relationship is not perfect.

Note: Bouncing back to my last post about regression analysis, involving linear regression, the only difference between linear regression and correlation is that correlation says: show whether and how strongly "pairs" of variables are related. I am sure there are other differences, but this one is the first to stand out.

The correlation coefficient, in statistics, has r measure the strength and direction of a linear relationship between two variables on a scatterplot. The value of r is always between +1 and -1. A perfect downhill, negative, linear relationship views as -0.70, which is considered a strong downhill, negative, linear relationship. The correlation coefficient is a measure that makes a determination of the degree to which two variables' movements are associated. The correlation coefficient has a range of values being -1.0 (indicates perfect negative correlation) to 1.0 (indicates perfect positive correlation). Correlation is a statistical technique that is used to measure and describe the Strength and Direction of the relationship between two variables (as mentioned in the beginning of the post). Correlation requires two scores from the Same individuals. In general, correlation tends to be used when there is no identified response variable. It measures the strength (qualitatively) and direction of the linear relationship between two or more variables.
