Clinical Supervision Requirements in North Carolina
In North Carolina, the supervision of clinical social workers is under the North Carolina
Social Work Certification and Licensure Board (NCSWCLB). For LCSW, the state expects the
candidate to have a minimum of 3000 hours of paid employment in clinical social work after
MSW within a period not less than two years and not more than six years. This must be a
minimum of 100 hours of clinical supervision by an LCSW supervisor, and the supervision must
be a minimum of one hour for every thirty hours of clinical practice.
It must be face-to-face, and at least 75% of the supervision hours need one-to-one
supervision. The group supervision may comprise up to a quarter of the supervision hours. The
