Her home health nurse comes weekly to check in on her. Mrs. G. likes her very much and wishes she could come more often. Mrs. G.'s daughter who lives in the next town over, has been worried and decided with the urging of her siblings and the doctor to start looking for an assisted living facility for her mother. The daughter decided to tell her mother that it was time for her to move, so she can be cared for and be safe. When she told her mother, Mrs. G. cried and said, "This will not happen ever. How would you best describe Mrs. G.'s feelings about her life, her family, her
traditions, and her future?
In the Hispanic culture, the institution of the family plays a central role in the society.
This means that there is a very close bond between the members of the same family. The fact
Mrs. G’s family members are living in others states has been very hard emotionally since she
has even lost her husband. She totally resists going leaving her home since she feels a great
deal of attachment to the family memories that were made in the house. This shows that she
is very family oriented and takes great pride in the way she has brought up her children and
the home she has built. To her, moving away from the house to a retirement home will mean
erasing all the memories that were created in the house. This would go against the traditions
of love and family which she lives by. Furthermore, since she associates her home with the
institution of family, she does not see any future living in a retirement home despite her
illness.
