Crime Scene Management

Crime scene management and related forensic investigation demonstrate how various
actions at the scene of the crime may affect the presence and efficacy of forensic tests during the
subsequent stages of the investigation (Fraser, 2010). The primary objective of crime scene
management is to be able to control, preserve, recover, and record the evidence at a crime scene.
The information gathered or any form of evidence should be well packaged and stored to guard
against any form of injury or contamination. The forensic bit of the investigation should also be
executed in a manner that is professional, and not only based scientific methodologies.
Crime Scene
A crime scene can broadly be defined as a physical place that has the potential of
providing evidence that an investigator requires to carry out the process of investigation. The
scene could be a vehicle, building, or any material and objects that are located in the given area.
The home of James and Fiona can, therefore, be viewed as the scene of the crime, that is the last
possible place that they were expected to be according to the parents. The area is the home of the
couple, and it contains several objects that could act as evidence and guide the team in trying to
figure what may have led to the alleged disappearance of the couple. Some of the objects such as
the CCTV footages, phone messages, information in their computers, and also some forensic
evidence could play a critical role to the investigative process.
Examination Strategy and Priority Recoveries and Reason for their Choice
The act of processing the crime scene, carrying out analysis of the forensic material in the
field or applying forensic intelligence methodologies to mark out the crime incident is
considered as a critical part of conducting effective investigations and preventing crime (Kelty
and Gordon, 2012). A crime scene that has been poorly managed or those that apply inadequate

approaches in the analysis will result in reliance on evidence that is of poor quality and
subsequently affect the investigations (Kelty, Julian, and Robertson, 2012). Relying on
inaccurate information from the investigations can affect the subsequent stages of such as
prosecutions, and even lead to miscarriages in the delivery of justice. An examination strategy
will be the first step that will guide the investigations to ensure professionalism, effectiveness in
the investigations and ensure that a thorough job is done.
One of the earlier steps would be to establish the dimensions and get a grip of the
locations, for this particular case it is the James and Fiona's home. The investigative team will
begin by establishing a focal point which is the place where there seem to be some interferences
