Please design a strategic plan for a health care service provider or community health program in
Maryland. For the providers, this could be a hospital, a primary care provider, an urgent care
center or rahabilitation center. For the commuity health programs, this could be a local health
department, an organization that provides support services or a community clinic.
1. Include your name.
2. Include an introduction. This is the introduction of the strategic plan that identifies the
organization you will be studying. Be sure to address, from an external environment perspective,
why it is important to examine this specific organization at this time.
3. Include a section with the subtitle, Plan Objectives. Before defining the plan objectives,
present in your own words the MISSION, the VISION, the VALUES of the organization (the
guiding principles or beliefs of the organization), and the overarching GOALS (what the
organization hopes to accomplish in the long term). (Note: Paraphrase but do not cut/paste).
After identifying what you believe should be the mission, vision, values, and goals of the
organization, present in a summary format a series of measurable objectives you are
recommending that the organization pursue during the next thirty six month period. Divide the
objectives as follows: SHORT TERM OBJECTIVES (those that are expected to be
accomplished during the next twelve months); LONG TERM OBJECTIVES (those that are
expected to be accomplished during the subsequent 24 month period). Explain briefly how
you intend to determine the ultimate success of the organization in accomplishing its goals and
objectives. REMEMBER PLEASE, YOUR OBJECTIVES ALL MUST BE MEASURABLE.
4. Include a section on the External Environment which describes the market and competition.
Identify and discuss at least two key trends facing the service sector. Discuss the sources of
income that support this company and speculate as to the stability and predictability of the
company's financial standing. Identify the current competition being faced by the company.
Identify what you have observed or you presume to be the advantages and disadvantages being
experienced by the company.
5. Develop and include a TOWS analysis. In that analysis, bring elements of the previous two
sections together. Focus on the Strengths and Opportunities of the company. Identify their
service strategy, their ability to retain their existing market share and attract additional market
share and how you would propose they do so. Explain the company's capacity to grow and
expand its reach into new markets. Once the strengths and opportunities have been discussed,
assess the business risk (weaknesses and threats). Consider once again the competition being
faced by the organization and how that competition may erode the company's past and present
successes. Explain how the organization is going to address the risks they are confronting. Some
of the considerations in completing this section can be presented as follows: loss of referrals to
competition; outreach and marketing efforts of competition; the ever evolving and fickle posture
of the Federal &/or State Governments in overseeing healthcare organizations; the challenges of
the organization's external & internal environments.
6. Develop and include an Action Plan. For each of the three years state the objectives you would
hope the company will accomplish in each year (year one, year two). Then state the actions that
will be necessary to accomplish those objectives. Then identify whom (position title) you would
designate to accomplish the respective objectives. Then identify the projected cost(s) associated
with the accomplishment of the respective objectives. You are expected to formulate the Action
Plan in tabular form with four columns--one column for each portion of the Action Plan.
7. Include a listing of your references. Be sure to include at least two articles. Remember to
include dates of access for web references that have no other date
