  1. Part I: Analyze diet
  2. Part II: Evaluate how the patient’s diet affects:
    • The person’s health (anatomy)
    • The progression of the illness (pathophysiology)
    • Common medications associated with the disease
  3. Part III: Create patient SMART goals and an evidence-based plan of care (patient education)

Introduction
In this paper I will discuss the nutritional analysis of J.W. He is an African American
male whose age is 60 years and is of the Catholic religion. His height is 6'0" while his weight is
230lb. The man is married with three children and takes three meals each day. He suffers from
hypertension and types two diabetes. He is to lose 2 pounds of weight each work for three
months. Of the medication, he is taking is a multivitamin, 200mg of metoprolol each day and a
500mg of metformin two times a day.
Part I: The Diet; Criterion 1
The patient has type 2 diabetes. This means that the diet that the patient should follow is
the diabetic diet which aims at controlling the blood sugar level of the body. A diabetic diet plan
involves taking foods that are healthy while eating them in moderate amounts and at the same
time maintaining mealtimes that are regular. A diabetic diet is one which is very rich in nutrients

not in check, they can cause serious problems. They may include hyperglycemia which is the
condition of having a high glucose level in the blood that is dangerous. It can also lead to
complications of the kidney, nerve system or the heart. Thus people need to check their eating
habits to avoid such complications. J.W suffers from type 2 diabetes, therefore, needs to lose
weight (Gray, 2015). He is to lose about 2 pounds of weight each week for like three months.

diabetic diet can help in actualizing weight loss and thus keep the glucose levels in check which
will bring a lot of health benefits to the patient.
In a diabetic diet plan, how to monitor the carbohydrate intake is one of the most
important things. The reason for this is because they are broken down into glucose after
digestion. Thus carbohydrates have the most significant impact on the glucose levels which we
are trying to regulate. To make sure that J.W keeps control of his glucose...
