Question One

Ergonomic risk factors are those associated with development of work related to MSD
hazards. These are work factors that impose a biomechanical stress on the worker. Exposure to
ergonomic risk factors at workplace can result to higher chances of developing an MSD.
Commonly ergonomic risk factors are awkward work postures, exposure to cold temperatures,
and repetition of work tasks, force, statistic postures, vibration and contact stress. Research has
that force, awkward postures, and repetitions are commonly linked to occurrence of MSD (Iowa
State University, 2017). Some of these factors combine to lead to higher risks. According to
OSHA, employees should use a range of physical work activities such as workplace, workstation
and environmental conditions to avoid succumbing to risks of ergonomic risks.
Question Two
Hand-arm vibrations refer to medical term for those symptoms manifesting in the fingers,
arms and hands for an individual when working with vibrating tool and machinery (Vibrosense
Dynamics, 2017). In the event that hand-arm vibrations are not controlled, the condition may
lead to neurological, musculoskeletal and vascular disorders. For the case of neurological
disorders, signs occur in form of hands tingling or numbness then later lead to impaired
sensitivity and limited dexterity. A fully developed neurological vibration is permanent. Vascular
injuries do affect capillaries located in the hands, fingers and arms. This causes blanching
especially due to exposure to cold temperatures. Musculoskeletal injuries take the form of
tendonitis, change in muscle fibers, reduced mobility and pain the arm.
