Description

For your final paper you will be required to write an essay at least three pages long using

in depth research to craft a persuasive argument. You will analyze the Stephen King text,

Revival, and argue what you believe the book’s central theme is. What lesson or message does

the book teach readers? How do the elements of plot, character, setting, dialogue, point of view

help support the theme?

Your essay needs to be clear and unified under your thesis. Make sure to include specific

evidence from the book, to show how and why your evidence supports your thesis. Since this is

a shorter paper, focus on the most convincing evidence. Your essay should demonstrate your

understanding of the texts, and your ability to identify the theme using support chosen from

either characterization, setting, dialogue, or plot. Your essay should explain why these

differences matter in how we understand all three articles.

Use your own original ideas about your topic in conjunction with your outside evidence

to support your thesis. Make sure to follow proper MLA citation rules for all quotes and

paraphrases you use.

thesis. Express your original ideas and insight you’ve gained about the book, to show

ANALYSIS OF DISTORTIONS IN ‘REVIVAL’ BY STEPHEN KING
The book revival is one that needs to be seen from a contradiction of its two main characters,
Jamie and Jacobs. Jamie Morton does not believe in preordination, and he argues that ‘then there
is no such thing as light, and our belief in it is a foolish illusion. If that is so, we live in darkness
like animals in a burrow, or ants deep in their hill. And not alone’ (2). It is a position that is
supported by Charles Jacobs, who is a Methodist preacher who tries to be a compromise, of
religion and science. However, as the book progresses, there is a divergence of these ideas, as
Jacobs tries to reconcile two ideas to which he seemingly does not subscribe fully. Thus, a look
at the novel can be seen as a divergence of the people’s expectations on religion versus the
reality of life and nature, which leads to a conflict on which the novel is built, a distortion of
