A doctrine is a set of rules, policies and principles that are supposed to be followed. In
the USA there were different presidential doctrines in different times that led to the
development of their politics and their foreign policy which they practiced. One of the
important doctrine is that which was formulated by President Reagan. The Soviet Union was
very powerful as compared to that of the USA. This doctrine helped USA to bring down the
powers of the Soviet Union in the era of cold war. The Reagan policy functioned for
approximately a decade, but it is seen as the core of the USA foreign policy, which started its
functionality between the year 1980 and 1991. The Reagan doctrine is used up-to-date for
political debates (Benjamin 2016). The conflicts between the US and Soviet Union were
geared by the implementation of this doctrine. This is the reason as to why up until today,
these two countries have never been on good terms.
